USA Networks Web site

ID Society was initially engaged by USA Network to run the voting portion of their "Nashville Star" program. With over 100,000 votes cast after each of the shows, our expertise in high traffic sites was invaluable, and the series was a tremendous success. Based on this experience, when USA Networks wanted a facelift for their consumer site, they turned to us again. The site needed to draw attention to special events and hit shows, as well as providing complete schedule information and current promotions and sponsors. All of this information needed to be easily changed "on the fly" by the Network's team, but they also wanted the excitement and motion of Flash throughout the site.

Based on these requirements, the IDS team devised a site infrastructure for USA Networks to allow them to easily swap out the main "engagement vignette" on the home page, or rotate content through that area, as well as changing any other content by manipulating XML files which were then loaded by the Flash units on the page. The data schema and page structure was repeated on many internal pages of the site, allowing media to be re-used and archived into appropriate sections. The use of static XML files to contain the dynamic data gives the site a high load tolerance, with minimal requirements for "live" database access.

The Flash/XML techniques IDS introduced to the site have been in use continuously at USA since 2003, despite a significant redesign based on 2005's corporate identity update.
